We heard a lot over there. About Amur, about some other things. Canada, in particular, and the USSR.
There's a lot going on over there, and not a lot of it is good. Thankfully, the people themselves seem to be pretty open to the idea of having us around, but that's about the only good thing I can say.
Well, you heard Amur as well as we did. I thought it could be a person, or an organization, or maybe even a river. There's one in Russia, called the Amur river, and then there's a bay too. But some people seem to think it's a person, but one we're not going to see.
[ A frustrated grunt. ]
Anyway, Canada is up north from here, they're normally a lot more neutral than this, or they often sided with the US, but... Apparently here they want to help the soviets. That's different, compared to the Earth history I learned.
And I'd assumed Amur was a person. [She says after a moment of hesitation.] Either way, it seems likely that this Amur is behind some kind of organization. Someone high up enough and powerful enough that his or her name is enough on its own. [And she's willing to bet that the government knows exactly who Amur is, not that they're bound to found out anytime soon.
Lightning makes a frustrated sound of her own.]
Do you know if any of their other political ties are changed? Are they a different nation ... in spirit? [If they're aligned with the USSR, it could give Lightning the room for doubt she's practically been desperate for since she's turned up. The idea of nations fighting nations doesn't sit well with her, especially since there is a degree of fear factored into it. It reminds her much too much of Cocoon's sentiments toward Gran Pulse during the years following the War of Transgression.
(Especially since even that "war" didn't go exactly the way it was said to.)]
[ You can almost hear the shrug of his shoulders, the silence is nearly heavy with the weight of his thoughts spinning in his head. Kaidan was often the sort that focused far too much on one thing or another. ]
I'd have to go up there, to find out. I'm -- I don't think the US is aware of it, yet. It's only conjecture and rumor yet, and I'm pretty sure there's something to be said for that. I don't know if it'll happen anytime soon, that it comes out.
I don't think there's been a travel ban on Canada yet, so that might...give us some room to breathe, and take action.
Yeah. Shepard and I have already discussed, ah, who can know. It's not many people, at the moment.
It's hard to tell who you can trust with this sort of thing, and I have a feeling that if the government got wind, they'd probably block access to Canada, and the northern US, and that could hamper our ability to move and take care of it.
I'm inclined to believe. Especially with the recent rumblings. [The lack of imPort approval is frustrating. It's as if they want to find problems with them.
It's even weirder, to Lightning, that it doesn't come from a place of fear.]
I'll look around without specifying that information.

And ... what is it? [The "but" is foreboding.]

[There's a hint of relief in her voice.]
Can you explain the implications about what you heard about Amur, Canada, and the USSR? I'm not sure if I understand the connection.
[IE she's still not from Earth, sorry, Kaidan.]
